Mendeley guide

Citing and referencing

You will need to have  Mendeley Cite add-in installed to your Microsoft Word. Mendeley Cite is a Microsoft Word add-in, which enables you to use references inside texts and create bibliographies. It is already available in the Word Online for the students and staff of Lapland University Consortium.

Choose in the Word -> Insert -> Get add-ins -> Choose Admin managed -> Choose the Mendeley Cite. (In your own Microsoft Word you can install it directly from the Office Store.)

Mendeley Cite will be found on the references page in your Microsoft Word.

Inserting citation: When you want to add a reference inside your text place the cursor to that part of the text you want to reference. Then choose the reference you want to use and click Insert Citation 1. Choose Citation style you want to use. Edit citation by activating the citation in Mendeley (clicking the citation in the oval frame) and then add page numbers and save.

A list of references: Put the cursor to the point in the word document you want to add a list of references/bibliography. Open More in the top right corner of Mendeley Cite. Then click Insert Bibliography 2. Choose Citation style.
