Information Retrieval Guide

Channels for Information Retrieval

You can use many different channels for information retrieval, depending on your topic and needs. Often, it’s a good idea to try searching in several different sources.

  • LUC-Finna – Material and databases subscribed by the library: Subject-specific and multidisciplinary databases (See list: Browse for Databases)
  • Google Scholar – Focusing on scholarly materials.
  • Keenious – AI-powered tool for information retrieval both on library databases and open access
  • Official information online – For example, reports from ministries or various publication repositories.

Library Links on Google Scholar

Before searching on Google Scholar, follow these steps first to gain access to materials purchased by the library. Also, remember to log in to LUC-Finna.

  1. On the Scholar homepage, click Settings.
  2. Click Library links.
  3. Type University of Lapland or Lapland UAS in the search box and press Enter.
  4. Select your institution from the suggestions and click Save.

Note: Google Scholar also contains a lot of content where full texts are behind a paywall.
