Research Data Management

Responsibilities

Be explicit about who is responsible for research data management and describe the distribution of tasks and responsibilities related to it. Also, be sure to pay attention to responsibility for implementation, maintenance and updating of the data management plan. Responsibility for both the whole and its parts may lie with an individual researcher, a research group or part of it, or cooperation partners.

Please note that the research project is responsible for the entire life cycle of the data collected and created during the project. Storage and sharing of pre-existing data are the responsibility of the actors responsible for the storage of the data in question, such as archives and libraries. However, the research project is always responsible for organisation and storage of the data during the research process, as well as for obtaining permission to reuse data produced by others.

Resources

Assess the resources needed for management, storage, and sharing of the data. Pay attention to time needed, workload, and financial costs.
Consider, for example, the following points:

  • work time needed for organising, documenting, describing and anonymizing the data
  • equipment and software costs
  • storage costs
  • costs of using external, professional support.

In addition, indicate the research data management costs in the budget according to the funder’s instructions.
