Reference guides

University of Lapland

There are no general instructions for references because they are always both discipline-specific and publication-specific. Supervisors are responsible for guiding the students to the guidelines of their own field. The Library does not provide advice but there is some information in the materials of the course Scientific Information Retrieval.

Lapland UAS

Please see the guide Reference Notation.

Reference management

The University of Lapland and Lapland UAS both use Mendeley reference management application. The Library provides a Mendeley guide as well as guidance. Basics of Mendeley are a part of the course YMEN1804 Scientific Information Retrieval.

How to create an e-book citation?

Always follow the reference style you are using. In general you must indicate how to access the material in addition to the bibliographical information.

  • Replace URLs with a permanent ID (DOI, Handle, URN) whenever possible.
  • You can make a link from the DOI tag: https://doi-org.[DOI tag]. You can find out the DOI in e.g. Crossref Metadata Search
  • Check if the document is available from an online repository, e.g. Internet Internet Archive or Memento, and enter the address of the archived document.
  • The use of URLs should be avoided because they might change over time.
