Creating a research group, community or network

In addition to the official organization hierarchy, there are research groups, communities and networks at the university. It means that a researcher can have multiple organization affiliations at the same time.

  • Research group is a group of researchers who are organized around the same research topic and who has a principal investigator (PI) and resources.
  • Research community is a community of researchers around a research theme, often multidisciplinary, whose members are interested in the same theme.
  • Research network is a consortium of research actors working to exchange information, disseminate knowledge and improve knowledge around a particular topic. The network creates opportunities for collaborative projects and new research ideas. The UArctic Thematic Networks coordinated by the University of Lapland belong to research networks.

Both staff and visiting researchers from different organization units, as well as PhD Candidates from different faculties, can belong to the research groups, communities and networks.

Should a new research group, community or network be added to LaCRIS, please, contact the library, lacris@ulapland.fi. The library also adds and removes the research group, community and network affiliations of the researchers and PhD Candidates.

The affiliation to a research group, community or network is created for the same period as in the job or visiting researcher's contract. When you get a new contract, you have to change the ending date of the research group, community or network affiliation by yourself. Otherwise, you won't be shown on the home page of the group, community or network anymore.

Editing a research group, community or network

The right to edit the home page of a research group or network belongs to the leader of the group or network. The research communities should choose a person to whom the editing right shall be given and inform the library of that (lacris@ulapland.fi).
